Why I Write

Throught my time in the Gateway course, the Why I Write essay was by far the most difficult. I struggled to understand the true importance of writing to me and how to incorporate my thoughts into a cohesive paper. Revision after revision, each draft was completely different from the first. In order to view the drafts please click on the draft title ("The First Draft", "The Second Draft" and "The Final Draft") and the document will open in a PDF.

The First Draft:

My first attempt at Project I was a complete failure. The essay targeted more "How I Write" rather than "Why I Write". I pushed and pushed to write more, yet nothing had clicked.

The Second Draft:

In order to complete the second attempt, I decided to completely rework my ideas about writing. I focused on the importance of writing to me. This was hard because I did not want pour my true feelings onto paper, yet knew that I must.

The Final Draft:

My final draft expresses the true importance of writing to me. It allows my audience to understand how writing has impacted my life and why I will always continue to write.

I hope that my transformation from essay to essay will allow individuals to understand the importance of revision. This was a process that I  always overlooked, but now I understand its true purpose: to make something better it takes time and lots of editing.
